This study was performed to determine if the rifling tool marks on pellets are significantly altered after firing 1000 rounds of .177 (4.5mm) caliber pellets in a model 3100 Crosman air rifle. In a series of 1000 pellets fired from an air rifle, every 25th pellet fired sequentially was examined and compared to determine the degree of rifling wear. An examination and evaluation of the class and individual characteristics revealed some differences in the characteristics examined; however, the changes were not significant in matching all of the pellets sequentially fired from the air rifle.
